Description
Vintage Trouser Suit designed by Janice Wainwright for Simon Massey
This suit consistes of a tunic style top and flared trousers in ecru. The long sleeved top has a long, pointed collared and is yoked front and back which is fastened with three ball buttons. Sadly the belt is missing. The trousers which are largely hidden by the top are fairly simple, no waistband just a side zip and hook & eye closure.
Janice Wainwright worked between 1965 and 1969 for the company ‘Simon Massey’. Her 1960s work was youthful, bright, and feminine. She was also, according to Judith Watt’s Ossie Clark book, the only other designer permitted to use Celia Birtwell’s printed textiles in the 1960s. Ossie greatly respected Janice as a designer.
In very good used condition, no tears or marks, it does however have several tiny pinholes to the back of the top and a larger one- though still small- to the front right side. Some of the seams are showing gaps but could be easily repaired. The hem of the trousers has been taken up 2 inches and could be let down if required. Several issues but still a great example of Wainwright’s work ar the time, hence price.
